![]() Other great buys can be found on instruments from Sho-Bud EMCI, MCI, Dekley, BMI (Beck),and ZB. They were well built and will serve the new or even seasoned player quite well. There are thousands and thousands of these used MSA's out there still working just fine. Probably the most undervalued guitars in the used market are the MSA models. Some of the older guitars are quite acceptable and excellent bargains. There are many gems available in the used guitar market. There are folks who would argue in favor of these, but in my opinion, they are far more trouble than they are worth. ![]() These are old student models from Sho-Bud, MSA, and Emmons. I would suggest staying away from the Maverick, Red Baron, and Little Buddy guitars. I feel that this will save you money in the long run. ![]() I would choose a used S-10 with a minimum of three floor pedals and four knee levers before buying a starter type guitar. Personally, I do not recommend buying a starter instrument. All of these guitars are just fine to start on if you choose this path. I have seen some Zum student models but don't know if Bruce is still making these. ![]() There are many options available with student/starter models offered by Mullen, Carter, and GFI. There is nothing more frustrating then trying to learn a new musical instrument on a piece of junk. There are a ton of opinions here but I think all will agree that it is critical that your guitar be mechanically sound and stay in tune. Let's look at some ideas for the player who is just starting out. The pedal steel guitar is a vastly complicated instrument which can be quite intimidating to the new player. First of all, the best advice I can offer is to find a mentor of some type who will help guide you. ![]()
